Scholarship Opportunities

Teen volunteers have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth through the Teen Court program. Teen Court Merit Scholarships aim to make a difference in the lives of the most exemplary student volunteers who have made a significant contribution to the program and have demonstrated a high level of commitment in their time with Teen Court. Scholarships may be awarded to volunteers who fill all roles, including jurors, bailiffs, clerks, and teen attorneys. However, only graduating seniors who are current, active volunteers may be considered for a scholarship.

Scholarship Night 2010

The Board of Directors of Teen Court of Sarasota, Inc., takes great pleasure, when resources are available, in awarding Teen Court Merit Scholarships. An annual fundraiser, usually a golf tournament sponsored by FCCI Insurance Group in conjunction with the Sarasota County Bar Association, provides the funding for the scholarships. To date, Teen Court of Sarasota Inc. has awarded $124,400 in scholarships. Recommendations for these awards are made by Teen Court staff to the Board at the end of each school year. The criteria for consideration are as follows:

  • Responsible notification of attendance.
  • Length and caliber of service time committed.
  • Regular attendance (demonstrating that Teen Court is a primary extracurricular for you)
  • Timely response to all e-mail communications and/or other information required by office staff.
  • Respectful attention to the Teen Court Dress Code
  • Attention to the program rules including, but not limited to, a respectful, professional attitude toward all participants at all times.
  • Work cooperatively and respectfully within a group.
  • Show a genuine and sincere concern for the at-risk youth with whom you will come in contact.
  • Be a law abiding citizen
